Late 18thc. gold skeletonised verge

A good skeletonised verge, in a gold exhibition case, in exceptional condition.

MOVEMENT : Skeletonised gilt verge movement, profusely engraved and pierced. Polished steel balance wheel and four round pillars.

Unsigned.

In very good condition and running well.

DIAL : A wonderful white enamel dial, with clear stone/silver set half hour markers.

In very good condition with just a couple of small flakes around the winding aperture.

Nice gem set hands.

CASE : A very fine gold exhibition case, heavily engraved and glazed to both back and front. No maker’s mark or gold mark (though tests as 18 ct. gold). Gem set silver rims to both bezels.

The gold is in very good condition, with the engraving still crisp. The hinges and catch are complete and the bezel snaps shut. One catch stud is a little worn. The high dome crystals are both good. Just one stone missing from the front bezel.

The movement is unsigned, which is often the case with skeletonised movements of this period. These movements were mostly made towards the end of the 18thc., in London, Paris and Switzerland. This example is probably French.
