Swiss gold repeater with calendar

An unusual Swiss gold watch, with verge escapement , calendar and quarter repeating on a bell.

MOVEMENT : A gilt movement with verge escapement.

Finely pierced balance bridge, and silvered regulator disk.
Protected by a sprung gilt dustcap with release button at 3 o’clock. This is signed :

Jn. Jques Hagnaur A ARAU.

Quarter repeating with two steel hammers striking on a steel bell.
The quarter repeating function is activated by pushing down the stem. This strikes once for each hour and then twice for each quarter. Good tone to the chimes.

The movement is in good condition, and is running well and repeating correctly.
The calendar operates correctly.

DIAL : Enamel dial with central calendar disk.

The dial is in quite good condition, though with damage around the winding aperture and screw head at 12.  Also a few light scratches and a tiny chip on the edge at 12

Blued steel Breguet type hands.

CASE : The 18 ct. rose gold case has ribbing to the bezel and band, and the rest is plain. The inside of the back, under the bell, is stamped with serial numbers 10082 and 1815, and a mark for 18 ct. gold (18K and triple chevron).

The case is in good condition, though there is a repair to the inner rim at 7 (hidden by the movement). The movement catch is missing but the movement is held firmly in place when the bezel is closed. The hinge is good and the bezel snaps shut (though is tight).

The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good, with just a couple of tiny chips almost entirely hidden by the bezel.

Although this maker is undocumented, a slightly earlier example of a watch by Seuller & Hagnauer of Arau does exist.
