Sold

A very attractive and good quality English skeleton verge, in a gilt case, with a shagreen covered exhibition pair case.

MOVEMENT : Skeletonised gilt verge movement, with minimal balance cock with regelator mounted, and four square pillars,. Six spoked pilished steel balance wheel and blued screws.

Signed GEO. HOWELL, LONDON and numbered 2321.

Excellent condition, and running well.

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial, in very good condition, with just one short hairline between VII and VIII . I believe that the gilt metal surround to the winding aperture hay have been added (probably to protect from, or hide, the usual chips around the edge of the aperture).

Nice hands fancy hands.

INNER CASE : Gilt brass, with glazed back.

In very good condition, with just some wear to the gilding. Both high dome crystals are fine.
The hinge is fine and the bezel closes properly. The bow is a later replacement.

OUTER CASE : Gilt brass pair case., with shagreen covering and exhibition back.

In quite good condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the bezel snaps closed.
The gilding has some even wear. The shagreen has a few small pieces missing but appears to be unrestored. Only one pin missing.

George Howell is listed in London in 1779.
