A large Continental watch, with decorative verge movement and polychrome dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with the top plate fully engraved and set with coloured glass crystals. Engraved and pierced balance bridge. Four square baluster pillars.

Unsigned.

Some tarnishing to the steel coquerette and screw heads but otherwise in good condition, and running well.

DIAL : Attractive contoured enamel dial with polychrome highlights to the centre.

In good condition except for some radiating hairlines and associated small chips, from the III numeral.

Large copper hands, probably replacements. The hour hand has been repaired.

CASE : A large silver case with maker’s mark LIP?. A plain back but some engraving to the bezel.

All in very good condition. The stem and bow both appear to be original. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes correctly.

The synthetic crystal is in good condition.

This watch was made on the Continent in the late 18thc., probably in Austria.
