A fine quality mid 18th century London verge movement, in gold pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four square baluster pillars, and small silver regulator disk. Sixspoked contrate wheel.

Signed (Saml. Toulmin, London) and numbered (2596).

This movement is in good, complete, condition and is running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial in good condition, except for wear/scratches around the edge.

Excellent 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Gold, with London hallmarks for 22ct., 1764, maker’s mark RP.

In good condition, with wear/thinning to the top of the bow, a little compression around the band and some scratches at the opening catch. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is also fine.

OUTER CASE : A heavy gold pair case with clear London hallmarks for 22ct. matching the inner.

One light bruise to the back, but generally in very good condition. The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

The gold cases weigh a total of 54 gms. excluding movement and crystal.

Samuel Toulmin is listed at the Stand, London from before 1757 up to 1783.

The case maker is probably Richard Palmer of Cow Cross, Farringdon, London.
