Early 19thc London gold verge

A good early 19th century London verge gold watch, in good condition.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with a finely engraved balance cock with diamond endstone. Four round pillars, polished steel balance wheel and blued screws.

Unsigned but numbered (6882).

This movement is in good condition with just a few light scratches. It is running well.

DIAL : Silver dial, with beautifully engine turned engraving and applied polished gold numerals set within matt cartouches. In excellent condition, with no scratches.

Gilt hands.

CASE : A fine yellow gold, with London hallmarks for 18ct., 1826, maker’s mark HJ. The stem, and back cover are both marked as 18ct. gold. The cover also shows the London year mark for 1826 and maker HJ.

The band has a milled edge, engine turned back, and cast decoration to the bezel, back rim, stem and bow The back cover springs open when the button on the top of the stem is depressed.

All in good condition, with just a little wear to the engine turning on the back. Also one small dent to the back. The hinges are fine and the bezel and back cover snap shut nicely. The crystal is perfect.

The case maker is probably Henry Jackson, who was working in London from 1816.
