A late 18th century, Paris, small verge in a fine gold and ‘peacock’ pearl set enamel case.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, silver regulator disk and four round pillars.

Signed ‘Jn. Le Roy, A PARIS’ and numbered ‘1234’.

In good complete condition and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In good condition, with just a scratch and 2 very light hairlines running from the winding aperture.

Gilt Breguet style hands.

CASE : A wonderful gold, enamel and pearl set case, with a ‘peacock’ enamel panel to the back.
The back, and the bezel are decorated with a split pearl border set into green and blue enamel. French gold marks on the stem and inside of the back, and case maker’s mark GM. The case tests as high carat gold.

The gold is in good condition with no significant damage or wear. The split pearls are complete, mostly still with a good colour, with just some slight darkening around 2 on the back. The enamel is also in good condition, with just some slight wear and scratches, mainly to the centre of the back. The crystal is fine.

The hinge is fine and the front cover closes tightly. However the case originally had a steel spring around the inside edge which would have allowed the catch to be released by depressing the pendant. This is now absent so the bezel needs to be prised open to access the dial and movement,
