Thomas Tompion verge with champleve dial

A fine verge watch, by Thomas Tompion, in gilt pair cases, with signed champleve dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge escapement movement, signed and numbered (4385). Four large Egyptian pillars and a well engraved winged balance cock, with a mask to the neck and scrolls on the table.

All in excellent condition throughout and running well.

DIAL : Fine signed champleve dial.

Again in excellent condition, and possibly regilded in the past.

Blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Gilt case, with shutter to the winding aperture and simple round bow. Case maker’s mark WS.

In very good condition throughout, with just some slight compression to the band, and a little wear to the rim at 7.  The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Again gilt, with a large square hinge. Engraved with a contemporary crest. Same maker’s mark as the inner.

Very good condition throughout, with just some tiny scratches to the back.

The cases, have been regilded in the past, probably over silver.
