Cylinder escapement, quarter repeating

Sold

An early 19th century Swiss gold watch, with quarter repeat.

MOVEMENT : A gilt movement with cylinder escapement, and gilt balance wheel.

Quarter repeating with two polished steel hammers striking two steel gongs.

The quarter repeating function is activated by lifting and rotating the button on the stem (90 degrees), before pushing down. This strikes once for each hour and then twice for each quarter.

The movement is in good condition, and is running well and repeating correctly.
There is an old soldered repair to the balance wheel, and the small steel washer under the square for setting the time has lost one half, but that does not effect the setting.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In very good condition, with just some very minor scratches and small edge flakes at 4:30 and 8:30.

Blue steel Breguet style hands

CASE : The gold case has engine turning to the back, engraving to the bezel and a milled band. The inner gold cuvette is signed ‘Du Bois & Cie’.

The case is in good general condition, but with wear to the engine turning on the back, some small bruises to the bezel and back and some enamel missing from the lettering on the cuvette. The bow is gold plated, and has wear to the top where the underlying base metal is visible.

The crystal has a couple of small chips on the bezel, at 4 and 10.

All hinges are fine and the bezel, back cover and cuvette all close correctly.

DuBois and Company are listed at Chaud de Fonds, Switzerland, circa1830.
