Fine silver pair cased verge

A very good example of a late 18th century London verge watch, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four round baluster pillars, and silver regulator disk. Blues screws.

Running well, and in very good condition.

Signed “Jas. Gillingham, London” and numbered (771).

DIAL : A white enamel dial, in excellent condition. Very attractive watching gold hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1797 and maker’s mark RP, and serial number matching the movement. Nicely engraved on the back with initials.

In very good condition. The hinge is good and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : A heavy slver pair case with hallmarks matching the inner.

Again in very good condition. The hinge, catch and button are complete and the case snaps shut. A little wear to the catch button.

The case maker is probably Richard Palmer of Clerkenwell, London.
