Gold case, 49.5 mm
Duplex escapement

Sold

A substantial London gold watch, with a fine duplex escapement.

MOVEMENT : A good quality duplex escapement. Signed (Geo. Vaughan, London) and numbered (61).

Beautifully engraved balance cock, and plate, with diamond endstone, and blued screws. Large polished steel balance wheel.
There are two unused screw holes on the top plate, so this movement must originally have had a removable dust cap.

All in good condition, and running well.

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial.
Excellent condition except for one short hairline running across the edge at 7.
Gold coloured hands.

CASE : 18ct gold case, fully hallmarked for London 1843. Maker’s mark JS.
Engine turned decoration to the band.

In good condition throughout. The hinges are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The engine turning around the band has a little wear. The mineral crystal is fine.

The gold case, including crystal, weighs 35.5 gms.

George Vaughan is listed in Hatton Garden, London between 1789 and 1834, so this watch was probably recased shortly after that.
