MOVEMENT : A good quality cylinder movement. Signed (Grimalde & Johnson, Strand, London) and numbered (5092).

Engraved balance cock, with diamond endstone, Bosley regulator and blued screws.

All in good condition, though with a few scratches around the pillar tops, and running well.

DIAL : A fine gold dial, with engine turned centre, and matt chapter ring.
In excellent condition.

Nice matching gold coloured hands.

CASE : Yellow and rose 18ct repousse gold case, fully hallmarked for London 1808/9, and maker’s mark LC.
Two coloured gold repousse work to the back and band. The stem and fixed bow form a serpent, twisted into the figure 8.
Inner gilt brass cuvette, signed as the movement. The gold repousse back cover is sprung, and released by pressing in a small brass pin on the stem (serpent’s mouth).

All in good condition, with no repairs. All three hinges are fine and the covers all close correctly. The high dome crystal is fine,
There is a little wear to the gilding on the cuvette, at the winding aperture, and a rubbed mark to the inside of the gold back cover.

The watch is presented in a red leather covered fitted case. Blue velvet and cream satin interior. There is a little wear to the leather, and the interior is a little worn and faded, but generally the case is in nice complete condition, with the hinge and catches present.

Grimalde & Johnson (chronometer makers) are listed at The Strand, London from 1809 until 1828.
