Silver cased verge with named dial

A good dated London verge, with named dial, fine skeleton hands and a portrait balance cock.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with the balance cock finely engraved and pierced, and with a portrait engraved on the neck. Diamond endstone, Bosley regulator disk and blued screws. Four round pillars.

Signed (Joseph Beale, Twickenham) and dated (1801).

The movement is in very good condition and is running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial, with original owner’s name (WILLIAM MAIN) in place of numerals and a charming sun motif for 12.

In good condition, with no repairs and a short hairline from the edge at 12, another on the edge at 3, and a few nibbles around the edge near 6.

Very nice matching gold coloured skeleton hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1800/1, and maker’s mark PD.

Excellent condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
The high dome crystal is in good condition with no chips, but some surface scratches.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with silver and maker’s marks matching the inner.

The catch button has worn down, but otherwise the case in in excellent condition.
