Silver cased 8 day verge by Baldwin, Liverpool

Stock No. 1529

George Baldwin
Liverpool, 1842
Silver, 46 mm.
Verge escapement, 8 day movement

Sold

A very rare verge, with a duration of 8 days.

MOVEMENT : Very unusual and beautifully made gilt movement.
Wonderfully engraved and pierced across the whole top plate. Large round balance bridge with three feet (screwed down supports), jewel endstone and large blued steel regulator disk.

Signed “GEO. BALDWIN, LIVERPOOL’ and numbered ’60’.

Very good condition throughout. The movement runs for 8 days on a full wind, the long duration achieved by an extra wheel. The fusee is therefore wound clockwise unlike a normal fusee verge.

DIAL : White enamel dial. In perfect condition.

Nice gold coloured Breguet type hands. Slightly different colours so one may be a replacement.

CASE : Silver. Hallmarks for London, 1842, maker’s mart WC over H.

In very good condition, with hinges fine and bezel and back cover snapping shut correctly. A couple of small dents on the band, near the hinge. The flat domew crystal is fine.
