An early English provincial verge, with a good original champleve dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with wide ‘D’ shaped foot and mask to the neck. Four square baluster pillars, large silver regulator disk and blued screws.

Running well, and in good condition.

Signed “Geo. Wood, NAILSWORTH”.

DIAL : A fine silver champleve dial, in excellent condition. Signed “WOOD, NAILSWORTH” on the central disc.

Good 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with worn maker’s mark (possible IS under a coronet).

In good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with no hallmarks.

Again in good condition. The catch is complete and the case snaps shut correctly, though the catch button is dented.

George Wood (son of William Wood whose lantern clocks are well documented) is listed in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, from about 1720 until 1766.
