Champleve verge by Josephson, London

An early English verge with original and unusual silver & gilt champleve dial, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with wide ‘D’ shaped foot and engraved mask. Four square pillars and silver regulator disk.

Signed “J. Josephson, LONDON” and numbered (1212).

In good condition and working. The tip of one of the three dial feet is damaged but the other two are fine and the dial is pinned firmly

DIAL : Silver champleve dial with gilt backgrounds, in very good condition. Signed “JOSEPHSON, LONDON” on the central disc, with scrolls to the sides.

Good early 18th century steel beetle hour hand and later replacement steel minute.

INNER CASE : Silver, with worn London hallmarks.

In good condition, with just some light bruises to the back. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

The high dome bull’s eye crystal has a few light scratches but otherwise fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with no visible hallmarks.

In good condition throughout, with just a few small dents and light bruises.
The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. The catch button is a little worn.
