Fine London verge, in good heavy gold repousse case.

MOVEMENT : Very fine quality gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, four square pillars and silver regulator disk. The balance cock is pierced to form the initial “PR”. Signed and numbered (2186). This serial number is also engraved under the balance cock foot.

All in excellent original condition and running well.

DIAL : A wonderful white enamel dial in almost mint condition. Just a few very light surface scratches. Good 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands..

INNER CASE : 22ct. gold, with London hallmarks for 1755, maker HT. Good condition throughout with just a few short scratches, a small bump at the hinge and a little compression around the band. Good high dome crystal.

OUTER CASE : A fine, and quite heavy, 22ct. gold pair case, with wonderful repousse work, showing Juno (the Roman goddess) and two peacocks.

Only very light wear to the high points of the repousse work. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

The gold cases weigh about 52 gms (excluding movement and crystal).

John Pyke is listed at Grays Inn, London between 1747 and 1780. He was Clockmaker and Watchmaker to the Prince of Wales (later George III.

The case maker is probably Henry Cleaver Taylor.
