Gold repousse pair cases, 46.5 mm.
Verge movement

Sold

An excellent 22ct. gold, repousse, pair cased, London verge.

MOVEMENT : Very fine quality gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, four square pillars, silver regulator disk, diamond endstone and 6 spoked wheels (contrate and third wheel). Signed and numbered (1616). All in very good original condition and running.

The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap which is signed and numbered as the movement. This also includes the maker’s address (Lambs Conduit Street, London).

DIAL : Fine white enamel in almost perfect condition. Just a few very light surface scratches. Fancy gilt or gold hands.

INNER CASE : 22ct. gold, with London hallmarks for 1769, maker IL. Excellent condition throughout with just a few short scratches at the hinge. Good high dome crystal.

OUTER CASE : A fine, and quite heavy, 22ct. gold pair case, with wonderful repousse work. Maker’ mark IL, as the inner (it is very unusual for a repousse case to be signed). Just a little wear to the high points of the repousse work and the catch button which has worn through to the filler. The hinge and catch are fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

The gold cases weigh about 53 gms (excluding movement and crystal).

John Devis is listed in London in 1769.

The case maker is probably John Laithwait.
