Sold

A rare example of a mid 18th century London verge by a lady watchmaker.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with a nicely engraved and pierced balance cock, with foliage, scrolls and a shell on the neck. Four round pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws.

Signed “Mary Fowler, LONDON” and numbered “1806”.

The movement is in good original condition and is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial, probably a little later than the movement.
In good condition, except for a repaired chip on the edge at 6.

Gilt or gold hands, both with a little damage/repair to the tip.

CASE : A brass gilt case, with maker’s mark AM.
In nice condition, with much of the gilding still intact. The stem and bow are original, and the hinges are fine. The bezel shuts correctly and the high dome bull’e eye crystal is fine

The “lace” edge to the balance cock was a popular form of decoration for London makers, but only used for a short period between about 1750 and 1765.
