Sold

An early English verge with original champleve dial, in silver pair cases. All in good condition

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with wide ‘D’ shaped foot. Four Egyptian pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws.
Signed “Tho Brayce, London”. In very good condition and running well.

DIAL : Silver champleve dial, in very good condition. Signed “Brayce, LONDON” on the central disc. Good early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks, but rubbed maker’s mark matching the outer case (JB below a coronet).

In very good condition, but the stem has been reattached and a silver reinforcing plate added to the inside. The hinge and the high dome crystal are fine and the bezel closes correctly.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching makers’s mark to the inner.

The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly but the catch button is a replacement. The silver is in very good condition, with just some light scratches to the back.

The marks on the cases are probably for Thomas Basely (also spelt Beasley or Beesley) of St. Bride’s Parish, London. His mark was TB (incuse) under a coronet and was free of The Clockmaker’s Company in 1684.
