An impressive, very large, verge watch, with crystal set bezel and enamel portrait back.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed (Meuron A PARIS) and numbered (5974, on the dial plate) with pierced and engraved balance bridge, and silver regulator disk. Four round pillars.

The movement is in excellent condition, and is running well.

DIAL : Signed white enamel dial, with marbled red chapter ring. In good condition with just one short hairline at 5 and a little repaired damage around the edge between 5 and 7.
Fine and elaborate silver crystal set hands with all of the stones present.

CASE : Gilded brass with double crystal set bezel to back and front. Painted enamel plaque to the centre of the back set within blue enamel and decorated with further crystals set in silver, and a painted gold and blue foliate border.

The gilt brass is in very good condition, with a little wear to the gilding on the stem and bow, but otherwise fine. The hinges are fine (with an old repair to the bezel hinge, and the case snaps shut nicely.

The case is stamped with the movement number (5974) and the word LETON (gold plate).

The beautiful decoration is complete, with no crystals missing. The enamel portrait has a few scratches, and there are 2 small areas of repair to the blue enamel at 12 and 4.

Meuron is listed in Paris in the late 18th and early 19th century.
