Silver pair cases, 49.5 mm.
Verge movement

Sold

A fine early 18th century London verge movement, in later silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with exceptionally well engraved and pierced winged balance cock, four square pillars, and silver regulator disk. Signed (W. Tomlinson, London) and numbered (2004). Good condition throughout, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial in good condition, with just a little damage on the edge at 3. No repairs.

This dial is a later replacement, possibly added with the inner case. It was probably made for the movement, as it is a perfect fit, with no additional holes added to the plates to make it fit. Later hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with London hallmarks for 1794, maker TF. In good condition throughout, although the stem has been reattached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome, bull’s eye crystal is ok with just a few small scratches.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with London hallmarks for 1773, maker LW. In very good condition throughout. The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

William Tomlinson worked in London in the early 18th century, and is listed in the Clockmakers’ Company between 1699 and 1719
