Saloman Lormier
Groningen, Holland, c1700
Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with wonderful enamel portrait covering the balance bridge. Signed and numbered (57). Four fine tulip pillars.

The enamel portrait is original (the balance bridge is solid brass, rather than pierced), with no repairs, but a chip to the enamel at the bottom of the portrait. Generally good condition, though the screws are mismatched. The movement is running well.

DIAL : Later white enamel dial in fine condition, with just some very light surface scratches. Fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks. Slight compression around the band but otherwise in very good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes well. The high dome crystal is also fine. The bow is a later replacement, and is slightly distorted.

OUTER CASE : Silver, again with no hallmarks. Engraved with a biblical scene showing Joseph, with Mary and Jesus on a donkey.

Good condition, though the catch is a replacement.

The dial and cases are later than the movement, though a perfect fit so were probably purpose made.

These are probably mid 18th century. The engraved scene is dated ‘1773’ so the outer case may have been engraved at this date.

Salomon Lormier is listed in Groningen around 1700.
