Hunter
London, 1734
Gold pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, large silver regulator disk and four square pillars. Signed ‘Hunter, London’ and numbered ‘226’. All in fine and complete original condition and running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial, in excellent condition with no repairs or hairlines, and just a couple of surface scratches. Nice gold hands. This dial is later than the movement and probably dates from the time of the replacement outer case, ie. late 18th century.

INNER CASE : Gold, with hallmarks for London, 1734 (rubbed), maker’s mark ‘HD?’ (also rubbed). A few light bruises around the band but in generally good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. Good high dome bull’s eye crystal. The pendant and bow are a little later.

OUTER CASE : Gold case, with hallmarks for London, 1789. Beautifully engraved, with floral decoration and monogram to the centre of the back. In excellent condition. The hinge, and catch are fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. Some wear to the top of the catch button and the small thumbpiece on the bezel at the catch is missing (leaving a small hole).

This outer case is a perfect fit for the inner and was probably made specifically for this watch at the same time that the dial was replaced (and the pendant/bow). These replacements are all of a similar period.

The total weight of the gold cases (including glass) is 56 gms.
