Gold pair cases
Massey III lever movement

Sold

Nice quality Liverpool lever movement, in American 18 carat gold case, needing some work.

MOVEMENT : Good quality Massey III lever movement, fully signed (M.I. Tobias & Co., Liverpool) and numbered (19080). Diamond endstone, blued screws and blued steel and gold balance wheel. Protected by a removable gilt dustcap.

The balance if fine and swings nicely, but the fusee wheel has a broken tooth and the fusee chain is missing. All a bit dirty but everything else appears to be ok.

DIAL : Cream enamel, in virtually mint condition. The seconds hand is missing.

CASE : 18ct gold. American gold mark (18 with an eagle), maker H.W.O. and movement serial number (19080). The gold is in good condition with just a little rubbing around the band, and a few small marks on the inside. The hinges, catches and crystal are fine. The bow is a replacement (and probably gold plated).

The 18 carat gold case, excluding movement and crystal, weighs 26.4 gms. This watch would originally have had a second pair case. This is now absent.

Michael Isaac Tobias is listed in Liverpool from 1805 up until about 1829.
