MOVEMENT : Signed “Eriacam” (Macaire backwards) and numbered (503) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, very well engraved and pierced balance cock and plate, silver regulator disc and ruby coloured endstone. In complete and good condition and running well.

DIAL : 35.5 mm. Silver champleve dial, in very good condition, signed as the movement.

INNER CASE : 40.9 mm. Silver, with maker’s mark FI and also marked with the movement serial number 503. Generally good condition through the stem has been reattached and both stem and bow are very worn. The hinge and catch are fine. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : 47.4 mm. Silver repousse. Poor condition with significant wear (and holes) to the back. The hinge is fine but the catch is missing.

F. Macaire is listed in London in 1732. It is not uncommon for 18th century makers to sign their names in reverse, as in this case.
