Gold repousse pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Fine gilt verge movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Signed “Ane. Charles, LONDON” and numbered (291). Excellent original condition and running well.

DIAL : 35.75 mm. Fine white enamel dial, in good condition with just a small repair at the catch at 6 o’clock and a very light hairline between 12 and 2.

INNER CASE : 41.5 mm. No hallmarks but tests as high carat gold (the bow is brass). Maker’s mark ILR. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut but with a gap on the right hand side. Good high dome crystal with no damage. Good condition though a few light dents around the sides.

OUTER CASE : 47.75 mm. Again no hallmarks but tests as high carat gold . The hinge is fine. The catch button is complete but the end of the catch has broken off so the case is not held closed. Wear to the high points, with some small holes but no repairs.

The total weight of the gold cases (without crystal) is 34 gms.

Antoine Charles is listed in Magdeburg (Germany) 1746, so this watch may well have continental origins.
