Grand
London, 1759
Silver gilt repousse pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Attractive gilt verge movement, with ‘lace edge’ balance cock and plates, which was typical of a short period around 1760. Signed “Grand, London” and numbered (529). Good condition and running well.

DIAL : 34 mm. White enamel dial, in reasonable condition but with a light hairline between 4 and 6 and a repair around the catch on the edge at 6. This dial and hands are replacements, though of the correct period.

INNER CASE : 40.25 mm, silver gilt, hallmarked for London, 1759. maker’s mark TS. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. Good high dome crystal with no damage. Good condition throughout with a few light bruises but the gilding intact.

OUTER CASE : 48.75 mm, silver gilt. Nice heavy case with no hallmarks, which is common for a repousse case of this date. The hinge and catch are fine but the catch button is absent. A little wear to the high points, and one small hole but no repairs.

Grand is listed in London, before 1768.
