This is an interesting early verge in triple silver cases, by a Swiss maker but with an English style movement. The outer repousse case is embossed with a Star of David and other emblems, so possibly of Jewish origin.

MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with wonderful pillars, and engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. The movement is fully signed. It is in good original condition and is running well.

DIAL : 42 mm. Early enamel dial, with no repairs but light hairlines from the edge at 2 and from 10 towards the centre. Some small chips around the edge. Nice 18th century beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : 48 mm. Silver. Maker’s mark AB. The case is in good condition with just some light bruising and a repair to the pendant where it has been reattached to the case. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

MIDDLE CASE : 55 mm. and again silver with no marks. Nicely engraved on all 3 rims. One very old repair on the inside at the neck but generally very good condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely.

OUTER CASE : 68.5 mm. Silver, repousse with heavily embossed decoration to back and front, still crisp with little wear. The hinge and catch are fine and the case is in very good condition. The engraving on the inner rim matches that on the middle case which is a perfect fit, so I’m sure that these cases have always been together.

Jacques Barthelemy Baccuet is listed as a horologist, in Geneva from 1699 until 1754.
However there is a F. Baccuet listed in London in the first half of the 18th century so this might explain the very English style of the movement.
