Gilt pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Fully signed and numbered (485). A good quality gilded verge movement with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone. Signed dustcap, with matching serial number. In excellent, clean, original condition and running well.

DIAL : White enamel. In good condition, with just a few surface scratches, the worst just above the centre, and a tiny flake on the edge at 6.

INNER CASE : Gilt brass. Signed CM. Good condition but with some wear to the gilding, mainly on the bow and pendant. Crystal also in fine condition. The hinge is good and the case snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : Gilt brass, signed as the inner. The gilding has worn down to the brass and there are a couple of small dents on the back (one near the neck and the other near the hinge). The hinge and catch are fine though the catch button has worn down a little. The back is nicely engraved with a monogram (EH) within a cartouche.

The outer case contains a beautifully embroidered watchpaper.

Edward Bird is listed in Bristol between 1791 and 1819.
