Ralph Gout
London, 1777
Silver & shell triple cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed and numbered (1074). Pierced and engraved balance cock. Complete original condition and running well.

DIAL : 37 mm. The signed white enamel dial has a few surface scratches and two hairlines running from 12 to 5. Nice original steel beetle hour hand and later steel minute hand.

INNER CASE : 42 mm. Silver, hallmarked for London, 1777, maker WB (worn). The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. High dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition. The silver is in good condition except where the pendant has been reattached, leaving an uneven surface.

MIDDLE CASE : 52 mm. Silver, hallmarked as the inner (but this time the maker’s mark is clear). Good condition throughout, the only damage is to the catch button which has worn down.

OUTER CASE : 63 mm. Silver, with shell covering. No hallmarks or maker’s marks.
The case is in reasonable condition with no restoration. The shell on the back has a few small pieces missing around the edge, the largest around the catch button. The bezel has just one large piece missing, at the catch. There are pins missing from both the back and bezel. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely, though the copper coloured catch button must be a replacement.

Loomes lists Ralph Gout in London 1770 and 1836.
