Bartholony
Paris, c1750
Gold case
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Fully signed (Bartholony A Paris) and numbered (1461).
The movement is running well and appears to be original with no repairs.

DIAL : 37.75 mm. White enamel, in good condition, but with some small chips around the winding hole and small hairlines on the edge at 2 and 10.

CASE : 44.85 mm. Gold, with rubbed maker’s mark and case number (1571). Tested as 18 carat gold but with no gold marks. The bezel and back are engraved, with some wear to the engraving on the back. The hinges and high dome crystal are fine. The bezel snaps shut nicely and the catch is intact though the catch button is missing. The bow and pendant are original.
So overall a nice gold case in good condition, though with the missing catch button.

Loomes lists several Bartholomys (also spelt Bartholony) in Paris around the middle of the 18th century.
