Gilt & shell pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilded cylinder movement, with diamond endstone. Fully signed and numbered (6325). Original condition and running well. The movement number is also stamped on the underside of the balance cock foot, which is typical from Graham.

DIAL : 35.25 mm. White enamel. This later (late 18thc) dial has a few surface scratches but in overall very good condition. Later hands.

INNER CASE : 40 mm. Gilt brass, in very fine condition with no wear to the gilding. No dents or scratches. High dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : 47 mm. Gilt with shell or horn covering. Very good colour and in good condition. Just one brass pin missing, a few short cracks in the shell and surface rubbing, but no pieces missing. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely.

The number of this movement dates this watch to 1746 or 1747, so quite an early Graham cylinder. The movement shows all of the attributes of Graham watches of the period and is undoubtedly a genuine George Graham.
