Cylinder quarter repeating movement
MOVEMENT : Wonderful little gilded cylinder repeating movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, and diamond endstone. Signed (Tho. Mudge London) and numbered (371). The repeating mechanism works correctly, striking one bell for the hours and two for the quarters. The movement is protected by a removable gilt metal dustcover, which is also signed. The movement appears to be all original and is in good condition and running very well.
DIAL : The later cream enamel dial is 35 mm in diameter. Perfect condition Nice blued steel hands. This dial is of the same period as the case (ie. 1835).
CASE : 43.5 mm in diameter. Hallmarked for London, 1835, maker GH (George Hammon). In good condition with a few scratches, some wear to the engine turning and a couple of dents on the band. The crystal is fine. This case and dial fit the movement and bell perfectly and have been made specially for the movement. All hinges and catches are fine.
The serial number of this watch (371) dates it to between 1755 and 1758.
