This is a small verge pocket watch, in a gilt brass pair case, with a verge movement. It was made by William Smith in London around 1780.

MOVEMENT : The gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, is signed and numbered (3419). It is in excellent condition and is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 34.5 mm in diameter. It is in good condition with just a few surface scratches but no repairs. Fine 18th century gold beetle and poker hands (not reproductions).

INNER CASE : Diameter 39.25 mm. Excellent condition with very minor wear to the gilding. No repairs. The high dome crystal is perfect. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : Diameter 46 mm. Again very little wear to the gilding and just one small dent on the back. The hinge and catch are again fine and the case snaps shut.
