George Taylor
London, c1770
Gilt case
Verge movement

Sold

This is a gilt brass cased watch, with verge movement, made by George Taylor, in London around 1770. The watch would originally have had a matching gilt outer case which is missing.

MOVEMENT : The gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, is signed and numbered (7954). It is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 34 mm in diameter. It is in good condition with just a few surface scratches and a hairline from the centre to the edge at 5. No repairs.

CASE : Diameter 40 mm. Very good overall condition and marked with the serial number of the movement (7954). Nice high dome crystal with no damage. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The gilding is almost complete with just some minor wear to the edge on the back and the bow and pendant.
