Pau Bramer
Amsterdam, c1700
Silver repousse pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

A large Dutch silver repousse pair case, with a wonderful verge movement and silver balance cock, made in Amsterdam by Paulus Bramer, around 1700.

MOVEMENT : The verge movement is signed but not numbered. Very large silver engraved balance cock with unusually shaped balance wheel. Wonderful gilt and silver pillars. It is in good condition and is running well.

DIAL : The later mid 18th century large white enamel dial, with date aperture, is about 45 mm in diameter. It has a repair at 6 o’clock, some light hairlines and some staining at 12 where a metal pin has been used to attach the dial. Nice fancy gilt hands.

Note that although the main calendar wheel (with date engraved) is present, the wheel driving this is missing so the calendar function is not working.

INNER CASE : Maker’s mark IBI? The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly. The silver is in good condition with no repairs. The high dome crystal is also fine with no damage or scratches.

OUTER CASE : A really nice early repousse case with square box hinge. No hallmarks. The silver is worn on the back but no holes or repairs. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut.

Loomes lists Paulus Bramer in Amsterdam from around 1720 although I think that this watch is a little earlier.
