Gold pair cases
Verge quarter repeating movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : A wonderful quality movement with ringed column pillars, silver pierced plates and gilt balance cock with diamond endstone. The movement is in excellent condition and is protected by a signed and numbered dustcap (Tho Ward, London, 1278). The movement incorporates an hour/quarter repeating function which is activated by pushing down the stem. The repeater mechanism has two hammers which strike the bell once for each hour and twice for each quarter. Both watch movement and repeating function are working. The watch runs well, to within a minute per hour and the repeater has a good clear ring.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 34.5mm in diameter. It is in good condition except for one short hairline on the edge at 3 o’clock and a couple of tiny chips at the catch at 6 o’clock. No repairs.

INNER CASE : Full London hallmarks for 1750 (under the bell). The pierced case has a few light bruises on the back and a gold repair just to the left of the engraved mask on the side. The bow, pendant and high dome bull’s eye crystal are fine.

OUTER CASE : This is a heavy (47 grams) 18ct gold case, which is later than the watch but a good fit. It is hallmarked for London 1874 and is in excellent condition with no damage or wear. Diameter 50mm.
