MOVEMENT : A good quality verge fusee movement with diamond endstone. Nicely blued screws and balance end cap. It is signed and numbered (45675). The movement is in very fine condition, with the gilding still bright, and is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 44.25mm in diameter. It is in almost perfect condition with just some tiny surface marks. Unusual matching gold hands.

INNER CASE : Diameter 48mm. Maker’s mark WL. The case is in excellent condition with no repairs or damage. The gilding is intact on the inside and worn around the edges and pendant on the outside. The high dome crystal is perfect.

OUTER CASE : Diameter 55mm. The case is in good condition with no dents or scratches. The hinge and catch are fine though with some wear to the catch button, The original gilding has worn off evenly, revealing the brass.

James Nichols is listed in Newport (Isle of Wight) between 1814 and 1839. The style of the balance cock indicates that this watch is from the start of this period. The watch case contains three watch papers, one from Newport (IOW) and the others from Winchester.
