Gilt pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with engraved and pierced balance cock with red coloured endstone. It is signed and numbered (701).

The movement appears to be complete except for the fusee chain. Two of the movement wheels look a little bent but the balance is complete and does swing. The mainspring and fusee seem to be ok.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 33 mm in diameter. There is a repair at 6 o’clock but otherwise in very nice condition with only surface scratches.

INNER CASE : Gilded brass with much of the gilding worn from the outer surface. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes nicely. No crystal.

OUTER CASE : Gilt brass repousse with much of the gilding worn. The brass has worn though at several points on the back. However there are no repairs and the hinge and catch are good. The case snaps shut nicely.

Loomes lists a W. Stokes, possibly in London in the early 18th century.
