This is a fine, large, very early English silver pair cased pocket watch, with a signed silver champleve dial. It is in good working condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement, and made around 1700, by Simon Decharmes in London.

MOVEMENT : Gorgeous gilded movement, in fine original condition, with no damage, repairs and very few light scratches. Four fantastic pillars, beautifully pieced plate and winged balance cock. The movement is signed “S. Decharmes, London”. It is running well, to within a couple of minutes per hour.

DIAL : The beautiful silver champleve signed dial is about 42.5mm in diameter. It is in excellent condition, showing very little wear.

Nice old fancy gold coloured hands.

INNER CASE : Maker’s mark WC but no hallmarks, which is typical of this period. The hinge is in good condition and the case closes nicely. Nice old high dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition, with a few small bubbles. The pendant has the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in excellent condition with no serious dents, bad scratches or excessive wear.

OUTER CASE : Diameter 57.5mm. Again the hinge is good and the catch and release button are intact although the button is worn down. The silver is in good condition with just a few light bruises on the back.

Loomes lists Simon Decharmes in London between 1685 and 1730. The style of this movement dates the watch to around 1700.
