Sold

This is an English pair cased pocket watch, with a gilt inner and underpainted shell outer case, in good working condition. It has a verge escapement fusee movement and was made around 1770 by John Thompson in London.

MOVEMENT : Nicely gilded movement, with square pillars and beautifully engraved and pieced balance cock. The movement is signed and numbered (713). The movement is in good condition and is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 37 mm in diameter and in fine condition except for a small repair around the catch at 6 o’clock.
Nice steel beetle and poker hands (early, not reproductions).

INNER CASE : Wear to the gilding on the outside and a repaired where the pendant has bee reattached to the case. One sleeve (of seven) is worn through on the hinge but the case snaps shut nicely. One small dent on the back.

OUTER CASE : The gilding evenly worn through to the brass in exposed areas. The underpainted shell has about a 2 inch section missing from the bezel and two much smaller pieces missing from the edge of the back, where there are also a few cracks. Good colour and nicely painted seaweed pattern.
