INNER CASE : Full hallmarks for Birmingham 1790, maker HH. The hinge is in good condition and the case closes nicely. High dome crystal in good condition. The bow and pendant are fine without the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents, bad scratches or excessive wear.

OUTER CASE : Matching marks to the inner. Again the hinge is good. The case snaps shut nicely and the release button is fine. The heavy gauge silver is in very good condition with no noticeable scratches and no dents, repairs or damage.

This is a nice late 18th century English watch, in a nice heavy silver pair case and an unusual calendar movement and dial. All in very good original condition.

Loomes lists John Smith in Coventry between 1784 and 1816. The hallmarks for 1790 and 1816 are very similar but the movement, with its worm screw mainspring set up and wide balance cock foot is late 18th century.
