Gilt & shagreen pair cases, 50 mm
Verge escapement
Price £675
A verge escapement watch, in gilt shagreen pair cases, with a good quality movement and particularly fine dial.
MOVEMENT : A gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four square pillars, blued screws and diamond endstone.
Signed S. Minchiner, London and numbered 231.
All in excellent condition and running well.
DIAL : Original white enamel dial, in very good condition, with no repairs, a few light scratches and some tiny flakes right on the edge at 6.
Nice matching gilt arrow head hands, with a repair to the base of the minute.
INNER CASE : Gilt metal with no maker’s mark.
In very good condition, with some wear to the gilding on the stem, bow and edge of the back. The bezel snaps shut correctly.
The high dome crystal has a few light scratches and very small nibbles right on the edge.
OUTER CASE : A gilt metal outer case, with shagreen covering.
The metal case itself is in good condition, with even wear to the gilding. The hinge and catch are good, and the case snaps shut. However the shagreen is quite worn with wear around the bezel and the rim of the back. Also a hole at the centre of the back.
Samual Minchiner was probably the son on William Minchiner who is listed in London from 1744.
