A late 18th century London verge, in a horn pair case, underpainted with an unusual floral centre and seaweed pattern,

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and four round pillars. Signed “Cha. Davidson, LONDON” and numbered “2316”.

In good condition, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial, in reasonable condition, with some small chips around the edge and a very light hairline from the edge at 9. Brass hands.

INNER CASE : Gilded brass, in good condition although the gilding has worn back to the brass in places. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The crystal has a couple of short scratches but no chips.

OUTER CASE : Gilded brass with an underpainted horn covering. Painted seaweed borders to the bezel and back, and a beautifully painted floral still life to the centre.

There is general wear to the gilding, wear to the opening catch button, but the bezel snaps shut correctly.

The horn covering is almost complete on the back, with just 3 short cracks around the edge at the top, and a longer crack, with chips, across the bottom. The covering on the bezel is in poor condition, with about half of it missing, Some pins are missing to the bezel and back.

Charles Davidson is listed in London, in 1794.
