An early Dutch verge, with beautiful ‘wandering hour, sun & moon’ dial , in silver repousse pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely pierced balance bridge and plate, four square baluster pillars, blued screws and large silver regulator disk. Signed “Marcou, Amsterdam” and numbered “1049”.

In very good condition, and running.

DIAL : Silver champleve ‘wandering hour’ dial, with central revolving disk, marking the day time hour with the sun, and the night time with the moon. There is a little tarnishing to the blue background of the disk, but otherwise all in fine condition. Gilt minute hand.

INNER CASE : Silver, with rubbed maker’s mark OL?.
There are small bruises and scratches throughout, and a small hole on the shoulder, near the stem (see photo), and the stem has been reattached, but otherwise all ok. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver repousse, with no marks.
Typical wear to the repousse high points, but no holes. The hinge and catch are fine (though the button is dented) and the bezel closes correctly.

M. Marcou is listed in Amsterdam, around 1700.
