A good gold Paris verge watch, with particularly finely painted and decorated enamel portrait to the back.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed (Romilly A PARIS) and numbered (9521). Pierced and engraved balance bridge with endstone, and large silver regulator disk. Four round pillars.

The movement is in excellent condition, and is running well.

DIAL : Signed white enamel dial In perfect condition with gem set silver hands (no stones missing).

CASE : Yellow gold with rose gold and gem set silver decorated bezel. The back has a fine enamel portrait set in a wonderfully decorated enamel surround. The portrait, surround and catch button are all gem set.
French gold marks (eagle’s head) stamped on the stem.

In good condition throughout with just one small scratch to the portrait, 4 small gems missing from the bezel, a little restoration to the blue enamel surround, and a couple of short pieces missing from the bezel rim, either side of the hinge.

The hinges and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is fine.

Jean Romilly was born in Geneva in 1714 and worked in Paris between 1752 and his death in 1792. A great watchmaker, inventor and innovator.
