A mid 18th century verge, in gilt pair cases

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and four square pillars. Signed (Wm. Wylde, Nettleworth, Nottm. Shire) and dated (1777). Good condition throughout, and running well.

DIAL : Classic mid 18thc white enamel dial in good condition, with no repairs but some light scratches and a couple of short hairlines from the edge at 6. Good 18thc steel beetle and poker hands (the hour slightly damaged on the ‘wings’).

INNER CASE : Gilt brass, with maker’s mark SP.

In excellent condition throughout, with just a little wear to the gilding to the stem and bow, and around the sides. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome, bull’s eye crystal is also fine.

OUTER CASE : Gilt pair case. Again in excellent condition with just some wear to the gilding to the catch button and middle of the back. The catch itself and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
