Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

A fine early 18th century London verge in exceptional condition.

MOVEMENT : Beautiful verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced balance cock, blued screws, four crested pillars, large silver regulator disk, and diamond endstone. Signed (J. Williamson, LONDON) and numbered (335).

Excellent condition throughout, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial in perfect condition. Very nice, original 18thc., steel beetle hour hand, but a later replacement minute hand.

INNER CASE : Silver, with maker’s mark GW. In fine condition throughout.

The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome crystal is also fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching maker’s mark to the inner. Again in excellent condition throughout. The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

This watch dates from about 1720, though the enamel dial is a fine mid 18th century replacement, almost certainly made specifically for this watch (no extra holes or adjustments to the top plate or dial false plate).
