Gilt & shagreen pair cases
Lever movement

Sold

A fine quality early lever movement, in a good shagreen pair case, by a well known London maker.

MOVEMENT : An excellent quality lever movement, with gold balance wheel, 5 spoke wheels, jewelled escape wheel and diamond endstone. Fully signed (Jas. McCabe, Royal Exchange) and numbered (17185). Very good condition with nice bright gilding, and just some light scratches. Running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial, in good condition with just two very light hairlines across the bottom edge at 6. Very nice matching blued steel ‘beetle & poker’ hands.

INNER CASE : Silver gilt with no hallmarks or maker’s marks. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. Good high dome crystal with just surface scratches. Good condition with some wear to the gilding, mainly on the bow and pendant.

OUTER CASE : Gilt with shagreen covering. The hinge, catch and catch button are all complete and the case closes nicely. There are two small repaired areas of shagreen, one on the back near the neck, and the other on the bezel at the catch. There are just 5 pins missing (from the back).

The shagreen retains a nice bright green colour.
